FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What subject areas do you edit?

My primary focus is the life and physical sciences.

However, I have extensive editing experience in a broad cross-section of fields, including economics, accounting, marketing, business, information and knowledge management, and planning. I am happy to review your manuscript to determine if my expertise is a match for your subject.

  • Can you do a sample edit?

Yes, I am happy to provide a sample edit of 300 words or less upon request. You may provide an excerpt of any portion of your manuscript except the abstract.

  • How fast will I get my paper back?

My standard turnaround is 5 business days after payment. Quicker turnarounds may be possible at higher rates or if scheduled in advance.

  • Can I schedule editing in advance?

Yes. If you know the date that your document will be ready for editing, I can reserve time for you in advance at my standard rate. Please note that payment must be confirmed before work can begin.

  • Can you provide a certificate of editing?

Yes. I can provide a certificate that you can submit to your journal as proof of editing. The certificate will include the title of the paper, the names of the authors, a link to the edited version of the paper, and a statement of editing from me. Please keep in mind that a certificate does not guarantee acceptance.

  • Can you edit LaTeX files?

Yes. I have edited many documents written in LaTeX code in Word. It is helpful to provide a .pdf version of the formatted text as a reference.

  • Can you reduce similarity with published works?

Yes, if the similarity or plagiarism is inadvertent. An example of inadvertent similarity is similar descriptions of methods that are regularly used in the author's lab. However, I cannot rewrite text intentionally copied from published work. To reduce similarity, please request Substantive Editing.

  • Do you offer discounts?

No, because my rates are already lower than those of large editing companies. However, I do appreciate repeat clients and referrals. I offer a discount of 10% on subsequent papers for up to one month after a paper is revised. I also offer a discount of $25 or 10% (whichever is smaller) for referrals.

  • Can you write my paper for me?

No. It would not be ethical for me to write your paper for you. You must provide the initial content and framework of your manuscript. I can help you identify missing content and refine the presentation as part of Substantive Editing.

  • Can you write an abstract for me?

Yes. If you select Substantive Editing, I can help you create a single-paragraph or structured abstract, depending on the requirements of your target journal.
